Reading speed is one dimension of reading fluency that is essential to achieve successful comprehension. The current study aims at exploring the effectiveness of reading software in developing reading speed for English as a foreign language (EFL) students at College of Languages & Translation - Al-Imam University. A pre-post reading test was designed and used to measure the students’ reading speed before and after implementing RocketReader online. Findings indicate significant improvement in overall quality of the experimental group students’ reading speed. They developed their reading speed; improved their reading speed skills; identified and learned to break old reading habits; acquired knowledge in retaining memory power; visualized word groups and concepts at an accelerated rate; rapidly processed a variety of information; and integrated memory training and speed reading. It can be concluded that RocketReader online can help transform reading into an enjoyable and productive task. The findings suggest that speed reading software may contribute to faster reading speeds, but there remains a need for further experimental research into the impact of other speed reading software programs |
