المستخلص: The phenomenon of Slum areas in Egypt, is one of the main obstacles for the overall development because it has negative effects of economic, social, security, urban, environmental and health. Most of the slums in Egypt are held outside the scope of government services and the lack of basic facilities and government services. In these areas where the spread of poverty, unemployment, delinquency, crime, addiction and attacks on property and other problems. This is a phenomenon is a reaction to multiple factors, including the economic, social, political and natural conditions, prompting many people to migrate from the countryside to the cities. The research aims to identify the Slum areas in Egypt and identifying its concept, characteristics, the reasons for their appearance and its environmental, urban, social and economical impacts. Next to that determine the size of this phenomenon on a global level with a diagnosis of the current situation of the phenomenon of slums in Egypt and identify the most important problems and difficulties facing the development of slums The research also aims to identify the most important Arab and international experiences in the development of Slum areas and how to benefit from them. Finally proposing the necessary recommendations to elimination of the increasing this phenomenon in the future such as reducing the increasing of people migration from the countryside to the cities and to encourage reverse migration by providing more jobs and create an attractive rural development projects at the level of governorates of Egypt areas. Besides, the need to achieve a balanced development and taking into account the imbalance in population distribution and equitable distribution of resources in order to reduce economic and social differences between the social classes. In the end, it is necessary to determine short and medium term of programs to improvement and development the existing Slum areas and removal of Slum areas in whole or in part after moving its population to other regions.
