This research attempts to respond to the question on the basic invalidators of fasting and its causes as agreed upon by the four schools of Jurisprudence [madhahib]. The researcher tries to regulate issuing fatwas on the invalidators of fasting through monitoring the changes that occurred throughout the times. The researcher concluded that according to the four schools of Jurisprudence, there are four main invalidators of fasting: food, drink, intercourse and voluntary vomiting. Each of these invalidators is explained in detail in separate chapters throughout the study with evidence from primary texts and juristic opinions to justify the causes for breaking the fast in each case. The researcher confirms the importance of being acquainted with the recent medical reports and scientific information when it comes to deciding on the invalidators of fasting in our time.
