نسلط في هذا البحث الضوء على فلسفة الدين من حيث كونها مجالا معرفيا حقيقيا أم يطلق هذا المصطلح مجازاً على موضوعات معينة، وفيه نتناول البحث عن نشأة مجال فلسفة الدين، وتاريخ ظهور المصطلح، ثم ننتقل إلى بيان حقيقة فلسفة الدين من خلال التعرف على حقيقة مفهوم الفلسفة ومفهوم الدين، ثم إيضاح حقيقة فلسفة الدين كمجال معرفي مستقل، بعد ذلك نتوجه إلى توضيح الفرق ما بين الدين والفلسفة، وتسليط الضوء على أهم الموضوعات التي يتناولها فيلسوف الدين في مجال بحثه، والعلوم التي يستفيد منها في دراسته، ثم نتوجه صوب موضوع بيان الفرق بين فلسفة الدين وعلم الكلام؛ لنتوصل بالنتيجة النهائية إلى حقيقة فلسفة الدين، وكونها تمثل مجالاً من مجالات الفلسفة التي لها استقلالها من حيث الموضوعات التي تتناولها والعلوم التي تستفيد منها والمنهج والأدوات التي تستعملها، ونصل بالنتيجة إلى كونها تمثل الدراسة العقلية النقدية للموضوعات الدينية.
