المستخلص: There are various provisions in Isl m specific to men and those that are specific to women. Among the rules specific to men, is the role of leader in prayer. It has been forbidden for women to lead men in prayer. This rule had been in continuous practice since the Prophet's era. If a man, despite his knowledge, offers his prayer behind a woman, his prayer will be null and void. As regards leading of women by a woman, the authentic view is that it is permissible. Besides, it is also prohibited for a woman to deliver sermon in Friday congregation and leading men. The later case took place in America recently giving rise to a controversy among some scholars. Taking note of this controversy, the paper throws light on the authentic rules of prayer maintained in the Islamic Shar 'ah.
