By emphatic statements of the qur’an, it has been made abundantly clear that the Prophet (pbuh) had been sent as mercy for entire humanity. When we examine the record of his life, we find this attribute most prominent in the Prophet's whole career and conduct in all conditions of life. The principle of clemency and compassion is, however, found most significantly operative in the educational role of the Prophet (pbuh). The writer demonstrates, by citing relevant examples from the Prophet's life, that application of this fundamental principle to the educational process and strategy was behind the extraordinary success of the Prophet's educational mission. The writer takes due notice of the fact that the Prophet's compassion also manifested itself in providing to each individual student what he needed in terms of his level of understanding, emotional situation and capacity to respond. These features explain the reason why the Prophet's pattern of education is still a highly useful model of universal applicability since it duly responds to all variety of situations and diversity of human tendencies. |
