المستخلص: The writer surveys the changes brought about in Abdullah Yusuf Ali's translation of the Qur’an, in the structure of Arabic sentences and their alignments. He takes up the chapter al-Anfal as sample for this alteration. He tries to show the amount of literal and free rendering found in this particular chapter of this trend-setting work of Qur’an translation by Abdullah Yusuf Ali. While appreciating the need for affecting certain shifts in the translation for better expression, the writer emphasizes the need of faithful adherence - as far as possible - to the structure of the original text and to the variant degress of stress intended in it. This sample survey should, more or less, reflects the nature of the entire work, the writer contends.
