المستخلص: This paper explains the significance of vocabulary employed for effecting divorce. The writer surveys the relevant provisions of Islamic law according to different schools that define the scope of this vocabulary. The latter is classified into explicit and implicit modes of communication. While the explicit divorce becomes effective by mere utterance, the implicit mode is contingent upon the husband's intention. This general introduction is followed by the expressions of divorce by way of metonymy that are prevalent in the Arabic dialect of Kuwait for effecting divorce in an implicit way. The writer also cites relevant edicts issued by the scholars of Kuwait that delermine the impact of these expressions of metonymy on effecting divorce.
