المستخلص: This paper addresses an important issue which is being agitated since recent times. This issue pertains to women's status in the cultural scheme and social estimation of Islam. A number of ad th texts are often cited by superficial critics of Islam to suggest an ostensibdel lower status of women in the socio-political order envisaged by the Islamic Shar 'ah. The paper proceeds to dispel those doubts and confusions that a misreading of these texts have given rise to. The writer does that by analyzing the linguistic and situational contexts of these ad th texts. According to the writer, the confusion created in some minds about the alleged lower human status of women is a result of sheer ignorance and lack of grasp about Arabic semantics. According to the writer, a correct reading of these texts and an appreciation of their contexts leaves little room for such erroneous misreadings.
