المستخلص: Since the computer revolution, translation has been part of a computer culture which made translators review the way they undertake the profession. The efforts devoted to translation have resulted in an important array of new tools to assist translation. The Memory Translation (MT) is the most advanced and used in the global translation market, increasingly demanding and competitive. By optimizing the work process and ensuring consistency and uniformity in translation projects, especially specialized translation projects, MT is a powerful and valuable auxiliary for the human translator. This article aims to draw up an inventory of both computer and electronic tools offered by computer science in unbridled evolution to the translator of specialized texts, particularly during the two stages of documentary and terminological research, and proper translation. The focus will be on translation memories, the definition, characteristics, and general operation of which will be presented. The texts likely to be efficiently translated with an MT will be then determined, and the advantages and disadvantages inherent therein finally underlined.

Depuis la révolution informatique, la traduction s’est inscrite dans une culture de l’informatique, qui a fait en sorte que les traducteurs changent leur façon d’exercer la profession. Les efforts consacrés à la traductique se sont soldés par un important éventail de nouveaux outils d’aide à la traduction. La mémoire de traduction (MT) en est le plus avancé, et le plus utilisé sur le marché mondial de la traduction, de plus en plus exigeant et compétitif. En optimisant le processus de travail et assurant la cohérence et l’uniformité dans les projets de traduction, notamment spécialisés, la MT se révèle un auxiliaire performant et précieux pour le traducteur humain. Le présent article se propose de dresser un état des lieux des perspectives et des outils tant informatiques qu’électroniques qu’offre l’informatique en évolution effrénée au traducteur de textes spécialisés, notamment lors des deux étapes de recherche documentaire et terminologique, et de traduction proprement dite. L’accent y sera mis sur les mémoires de traduction, dont la définition, les caractéristiques, et le fonctionnement général seront présentés. Les textes susceptibles d’être efficacement traduits avec une MT seront ensuite déterminés, et les avantages et inconvénients y inhérents enfin soulignés.
