المستخلص: The changes that the world has witnessed in recent decades have increased the concern for developing the values of citizenship in individuals as a safeguard for the cohesion of the social fabric by providing individuals with knowledge, values as well as social, political, cultural and ethical principles. These values and principles will help them to adapt to the above-mentioned changes and face their challenges in light of the societal specificity of each country and people. The study aims at identifying the role of the university in developing the values of citizenship and the extent to which their students are aware of these values and of the impact of the challenges of globalization on the concept and dimensions of citizenship. In order to achieve this, a questionnaire comprising 79 sections was prepared and distributed to a sample of 1065 students (648 males and 417 females) in the second semester of the academic year 2015-2016. It found out that the university contributes significantly to the development of the values of citizenship and that the representation of these values among the students of Asyut and Sohag universities is very high. The study also demonstrated that there are no differences at the 0.05 significance level in the degree of the students’ representation of the values of citizenship due to age and college type variables.

أدت التغيرات التي شهدها العالم في العقود الأخيرة إلى زيادة الاهتمام بتنمية قيم المواطنة لدى الأفراد باعتبارها صمام أمان لتماسك النسيج المجتمعي من خلال تزويد الأفراد بالمعارف والقيم والاتجاهات الاجتماعية والسياسية والثقافية والأخلاقية التي تساعدهم على التكيف مع هذه التغييرات ومواجهه تحدياتها في ضوء الخصوصية المجتمعية لكل دولة وشعب، فقد هدفت الدراسة إلى التعرف على دور الجامعة في تنمية قيم المواطنة والتعرف على درجة تمثل هذه القيم لدى طلابها ووعيهم بأثر تحديات العولمة في مفهوم وأبعاد المواطنة، ولتحقيق ذلك تم إعداد استبانة اشتملت على (79) فقرة، وطبقت على عينة مكونة من (1065) منهم (678) طالبا، و(417) طالبة في الفصل الدراسي الثاني من العام الجامعي 2015-2016، وتوصلت إلى أن الجامعة تساهم بدرجة كبيرة في تنمية قيم المواطنة، وأن درجة تمثل طلبة جامعة أسيوط وسوهاج لقيم المواطنة كانت مرتفعة، كما أنه لا توجد فروق عند مستوى الدلالة (0.05) في درجة تمثل الطلبة لقيم المواطنة تعزى لمتغير العمر ونوع الكليات.
