ترتبط الفتحات بعنصر الضوء الذي يعتبر إحدى الثوابت الفكرية المؤثرة على الفكر الفلسفي لدى المعماري المسلم، وتعتبر الفتحات من أهم العناصر الحاكمة في تصميم المساجد لما لها من رمزيات ترتبط بالعقيدة الإسلامية، فدائما ما كانت الشمسيات والقمريات توظف كدلالات فلسفية وعقائدية مرتبطة بمصدر الضوء الذي يعتبر من أبرز عناصر التشكيل بما له من تأثير على العناصر والأشكال البصرية توظف لخدمة إيحاءات نفسية ورمزية معينة داخل الفراغ في العمارة الدينية بالتحديد وبالإضافة إلى العمارة المدنية. ولقد لعب الضوء دور هام في التأثير على التشكيلات الزخرفية، فقد لاحظ المصمم تأثير ضوء الشمس على الزخارف الخارجية، كما يمتد تأثيره مع الإضاءة الصناعية على الزخارف الداخلية فظهرت الزخارف الإسلامية متكاملة مع الإضاءة المختلفة حيث استمدت الزخارف وضوحها وتأثيرها من تعارض الضوء والظل مع القيم التشكيلية للعناصر المعمارية من البروز والعمق. مشكلة البحث: قلة وجود دراسات كافية من استغلال الفتحات المعمارية كعناصر جمالية وأهم الطرق التي ابتكرها المعماري المسلم لإدخال الضوء إلى الداخل بمفهوم ستائر الضوء كعناصر جمالية تظهر فيها الفتحات كلوحات مضيئة ضمن لغة معمارية أكثر إبداعا وتشويقا أسهمت في إبراز جماليات العناصر والزخارف الداخلية مع تنوع ألوانها وملامس سطوحها ومحققة حالة روحانية وانسجام بين الفراغ ذاته ومستخدم الفراغ الداخلي. هدف البحث: التأكيد على القيم الوظيفية والجمالية لفنون ستائر الضوء ودورها في العمارة الداخلية للمباني الإسلامية من أجل إدراجها تحت أحد أهم المفردات المعمارية التي صاغت اللغة التشكيلية للعمارة الإسلامية والتي لا تقل في أهميتها عن أي عنصر معماري آخر.
