المستخلص: The current study aims at revealing the body dysmorphic disorder and its relation to self-esteem among cosmetic surgery clinic visitors in the county of Homs in the light of the following independent variables: sex and age, using the correlative descriptive methodology. For the purpose of achieving the goals of the study, the researcher applied the body dysmorphic disorder criterion together with the self-esteem criterion to a sample of 200 visitors to the cosmetic surgery clinics. The results reveal a statistically significant positive correlation between the body dysmorphic disorder and self-esteem. The results also reveal a difference between males and females according to the body dysmorphic disorder criterion in favor of females. It also reveals that there is no such difference according to the self-esteem criterion, but there are differences between age group 30-50 and age group 18-30 on the body dysmorphic disorder criterion in favor of the younger group. Based on these results the researcher recommends conducting further studies and research that tackle the body dysmorphic disorder and its relation to self-esteem. The researcher also recommends studying other samples within the Syrian society, which enriches the psychology Arabic library.

تهدف الدراسة الحالية إلى الكشف عن اضطراب تشوه الجسد الوهمي وعلاقته بتقدير الذات لدى مرتادي عيادات التجميل في مدينة حمص في ضوء المتغيرات المستقلة الآتية: الجنس والعمر، باستخدام المنهج الوصفي الارتباطي. ولتحقيق أهداف الدراسة طبق الباحث مقياس تشوه الجسد الوهمي ومقياس تقدير الذات على عينة بلغت 200 شخص من مرتادي عيادات التجميل. وأظهرت النتائج وجود ارتباط موجب ذي دلالة إحصائية بين تشوه الجسد الوهمي وتقدير الذات، كما بينت النتائج وجود فروق بين الذكور والإناث على مقياس تشوه الجسد الوهمي لصالح الإناث، وعدم وجود مثل هذه الفروق على مقياس تقدير الذات، ووجود فروق بين الأشخاص الذين تتراوح أعمارهم بين 30-50 سنة والأشخاص الذين تتراوح أعمارهم بين 18-30 على مقياس تشوه الجسد الوهمي لصالح الشريحة الأصغر عمراً. وفي ضوء هذه النتائج يوصي الباحث بإجراء المزيد من الدراسات والبحوث العلمية التي تهتم بتشوه الجسد الوهمي وعلاقته بتقدير الذات، ولعينات أخرى في المجتمع السوري، وبالتالي إغناء المكتبة العربية النفسية.
