المستخلص: En Afrique comme ailleurs, l'armée romaine comprenait deux éléments: la légion et les troupes auxiliaires. Vers la fin de la république la Legio III Augusta s’installa dans la province, elle fut, probablement dissoute en 238 et reconstituée en 252-253 ap.J-C. Jusqu’aux réformes de l’empire tardif, elle était un instrument l’efficace de guerre et de paix. Quant aux troupes, ells étaient divisés en unités ‘’alae’’ et groupes ‘’numeri’’. Ainsi organisée, l’armée romaine a joué un rôle déterminant important dans la romanisation en Afrique du Nord.

In Africa as elsewhere, the Roman army consisted of two elements: the legion and auxiliary troops. Towards the end of the Republic the Legio III Augusta settled in the province. It was, probably dissolved in 238 and reconstituted in 252-253 AD. Until the reforms of the late empire, it was an effective instrument of war and peace. As for the troops, they were divided into units ''alae'' and groups ''numeri''. Thus organized, the Roman army played an important role in Romanization in North Africa.

كان الجيش الروماني بأفريقيا مثل باقي المقاطعات، يضم كتيبة أوغسطس الثالثة وفرقا مساعدة، وقد استقرت الكتيبة بالمقاطعة الإفريقية في نهاية العهد الجمهوري إلى أنهاء مهامها حوالي 280 م، ويحتمل أنه أعيد تشكيلها سنة 252-253 م، وظلت أداة فعالة في الحرب والسلم. أما الفرق المساعدة فكانت مقسمة لأجنحة" alae" وفرق" cohortes " ووحدات" umeri 55 " وبهذا التنظيم لعب الجيش الروماني دورا حاسما في رومنة شمال افريقيا
