|a Energy is an operational imperative and essential source that affects a wide range of the whole world capabilities. One of the most promising technologies in the energy field is Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFCs) devices. These devices are providing the proper solutions by giving the highest possible efficiency during practical use by converting the chemical energy to electrical energy. Hence, presenting and developing new materials in this technology is essential and urgently desired. This work mainly focuses on the SOFC component materials development and characterizations. We can find several merits in SOFC devices as it can tolerate and confront challenges that still exist in other fuel cells and fossil fuels. Some of the challenges are: performance, efficiency, cost and durability. The new material design and synthesis using different techniques like solid state reactions, sol-gel, combustion etc. will be helpful to solve the current problems we are facing now and in the future. In this work, a new series of materials were synthesized by solid state reaction method and characterized by using different techniques. Perovskite type (general formula, ABO3) Sm1-xFe1-3xZr3xO3 (x= 0.0, 0.01, 0.02, 0.336, 0.5, 0.1 and 0.15) and Sm1-xZrxFe1-xYbxO3 (x= 0.0, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5. 0.7 and 0.9) were prepared in the single phase to use as electrode materials for SOFCs and photo catalytic applications. Also, a layered perovskites (general formula, A2B2O5+d) LnBaMn2O5+δ (Ln= Nd, Sm) were prepared by solid state reaction method. The characterization of the materials were done through X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscope (SEM), thermo gravimetric analysis (TGA), particle size measurements, direct current conductivity and impedance spectroscopy. Moreover, photo catalytic activities and fuel cell performance test have been done for some selected promising samples. The findings are very promising for SOFCs applications and have been published in high impact peer reviewed journals.
