المستخلص: السلام نعمة للبشريّة، والعنفَ والحروبَ لعنةٌ لها، والسلام محبة وتعايش، والحروب عداء وتفرقة. لقد أنهكت الحروب والصراعات شعوبًا كثيرة على وجه الأرض على مر الزمان لذلك أصبحت المجتمعات اليوم تطمح إلى السلام الذي يستجيب لآمالها وأمنياتها لأنه يؤمن لها حياة رغيدة دون خوف من القذائف بكل أنواعها أو الرصاص أو القنابل أو الأسلحة النووية. أسلحة تدمر المجتمع، وتهدم المنشآت والحضارات والإرث التاريخي للأوطان . السلام غاية تطمح لها شعوب العالم جميعًا وقد دعمته الديانات السماوية جميعها فقد حيث دعت كلها إلى المحبة، والرحمة، والتأخي، والمودة، وبناء المستقبل المشترك بين كافة الشعوب والأعراق والأجناس. فالسلام اسم نسبه الله إليه ضمن أسمائه الحسنى، وهو تحية المسلمين، ودعوة الأنبياء جميعًا، وهو ما يدعی به بعد الانتهاء من الصلاة، وكأنها وصية أنزلها الله للأرض لكي يؤمن بما ويتقلدها الناس. وقد نص الميثاق التأسيسي لليونسكو في ديباجته على عدة نقاط منها: "لما كانت الحروب تتولد في عقول البشر، ففي عقولهم يجب أن تبني حصون السلام. لمناقشة موضوع السلام وأهميته في المنظومة التربوية، نعتمد في هذا المقال على عدد من المحاور التي من شأنها أن توضح معنى السلام وتحقق أهميته وأهدافه.
