يرتبط المؤتمر الدولي الأول حول التراث المعماري والعمراني لمنطقة البحر الأبيض المتوسط بخاصيتين، الأولى إعادة إحياء تثمين التراث المتوسطي، والثانية عندما تكشف الذاكرة عن التراث وتحاكيه. لابد من بناء حركة تحديث مستمرة غير قابلة للنكوص آو الارتداد فأطير النخب الثقافية في حوار معرفي منفتح حول القيم التراثية والحضارية والإنسانية يساعد علي إعداد أجيال متعاقبة من المنفتحين على جميع الثقافات في العالم كله إن التفاعل الجدي والعلمي مع الثقافة الكونية (ثقافة العولمة) فرغم الإيجابيات الكثيرة التي حصلت بها المساحة الثقافية والفنية على المستوى الكوني وها رافقها هن اكتشافات علمية وتراثية، وثورات تكنولوجية و إعلامية وبيولوجية وفضائية مذهلة ، إلا أن هناك هواجس التأثيرات السلبية المتوقعة من ثقافة العولمة التي تنشر مقولات أيدولوجية خاطئة واستفزازية حول "صراع الحضارات" و "أزمة الهوية" ومع ذلك فإن التراث العربي وطاقات العرب البشرية و ما لديها من ثروات عمرانية وتاريخية غير مستغلة (إذ يحمل في مفرداته البصمات الحية لهذه الشخصية المميزة في كل معاني الحياة). لذا سنحاول في بحثنا ( العولمة والتراث والهوية الثقافية العربية) والذي يندرج تحت المحور الأول: أهمية التراث وتحديد هويته، من تحديد أهم العوامل التي تجعلنا قادرين على مواجهه سلبيات عصر العولمة. لقد آن الأوان لكي يدخل العرب المشهد الثقافي في عصر العولمة عبر مؤسسات ثقافيه ذات توجه شمولي للمشاركة في الثقافات الكونية من موقع الفعل وليس رد الفعل. إن العمل العربي الجماعي في إطار ومناخ التفكير النقدي في الجامعات والمؤسسات الصحفية والإعلامية العربية هو البداية الصحيحة والقوية لاقتحام الأزمات الواضحة في المشهد الثقافي العربي (لخلق نوع من التوازن بين تطويع خصائص المعالم والمواقع ومرافقها لتحاكي رغباتهم وبين الحفاظ على هذا التراث الحضاري) وهو ما حقق أهم الأهداف العملية والعلمية للمؤتمر. فقد آن الأوان لمراجعة معارفنا عن الغرب ولإعادة النظر في المسلمات الراسخة في أذهاننا عنه وبناء صورة جديدة تساعد على تقديم معرفة عقلانية وليس عاطفية أو انفعالية عن صورة الهوية العربية في الغرب. إن مد الجسور لعملية التواصل الواقعي مع الآخر. فهو ليس مجرد عنصر للحوار، وإنما هو عنصر تكويني من عناصر الذات. كما سيعرض البحث لأهم عناصر التراث وهويته ومعالم الثقافة الإنسانية التي هي ليست حكرا لأحد دون غيره فهي ليست اختراعا يستحق البراءة ولا اكتشافا يتأثر به احد، يل هي نهر كبير يدلي فيه كل إنسان بدلوه، فيستوعب هذا النهر في مساره كل التيارات ويتجاوز كل الصخور ويلفظ كل الشوائب، وفي اعتقادنا ان لكل نصيب من طرح النهر وما يبعثه من نشاط إنساني من اجل تعزيز التعاون العربي الغربي على مستوى البحث العلمي و مد جسور التواصل.
