المستخلص: In this article, we intend to write about the time, through what the past tense suggests. We will try to show that the verb forms, i.e. the past, the present and the imperative, do not necessarily express time, even though they are not devoid of temporal dimensions. Time does not really manifest itself except through other dimensions of Aspect and Mode, as well as lexical, structural and contextual dimensions. This makes time a very rich category, and it is not true that time in Arabic is poor, and it is limited to that the event is either complete or incomplete, or is in the process of coming into effect. Nous tenterons dans cet exposé de soulever la question du temps linguistique en arabe, et de bien démontrer que le verbe en accompli ne représente pas vraimemt, et dans tous les cas le temps passé. Par ailleurs le passé nécessite à faire appel à l´aspect, au mode et aux traits lexicaux, syntaxiques et contextuels.

إننا نروم في هذا المقال أن نتناول مسألة الزمان، وذلك من خلال ما توحي به صيغة الماضي. محاولين أن نبين أن صيغ الأفعال، أي الماضي والمضارع والأمر، لا تعبر بالضرورة عن الزمان، وإن كانت لا تخلو من أبعاد زمانية. ولا يتجلى الزمان حقيقة إلا من خلال أبعاد أخرى من نحو الوجهة Aspect والوجه Mode، فضلاً عن الأبعاد المعجمية والتركيبية والسياقية. الأمر الذي يجعل الزمان مقولة على غاية من الثراء، وليس صحيحاً أن الزمان في العربية فقير، وهو يقتصر على أن يكون الحدث فيه إما تاماً أو غير تام، أو هو في طور التحقق.
