تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى تسليط البحث على نظرية الحجاج في اللغة في الدرس العربي الحديث من حيث الاستيعاب والممارسة، وأثرها الإيجابي في تنمية وتطوير الدرس اللغوي العربي الحديث، وهيفي الأصل نظرية غربية حديثة المنشأ، انتقلت إلى حقل الدراسات اللغوية العربية الحديثة، وقد اتخذت هذه الدراسة مسارين متلازمين؛ أولهما ركزت فيه على التعريف بالنظرية من حيث الانبثاق الأبستمولوجيا من الأفعال اللغوية إلى النظرية الحجاجية، والتحول الوظيفي من الوظيفة الإخبارية إلى الوظيفة الحجاجية، عمدة ذلك التحول التوجيه لأنه إكسير الحجاج ومادته، ثانيهما اجتهدت فيه في استحضار بعض الممارسات التطبيقية لهذه النظرية، وهى عبارة عن أمثلة أوردها اللغويون العرب المحدثون كشواهد على صلاحية زرع هذه النظرية في حقل الدراسات اللغوية العربية، وتطبيقها على النصوص العربية قرآنها ونثرها وشعرها، كل ذلك من خلال المؤلفات العربية الأصلية والمترجمة احتراما لعنوان الدراسة؛ وكانت النتيجة أن نظرية الحجاج في اللغة وتطبيقاتها في الدرس العربي الحديث قد لاقت استحسانا، ولا زالت تلقاه يوما بعد يوم، وما ذاك إلا أمارة صلاحيتها، وبشارة توطنها في الدرس العربي اللغوي الحديث، وتلك سنة ماضية في حركية العلوم وتطويرها بلا استثناء.
