تعتبر الأسرة أول هيئة اجتماعية تنشأ فيها وتنعقد أمتن الروابط الإنسانية والاجتماعية وأوثقها، فهي أيضا تحتل مركزا متميزا داخل المجتمع لاضطلاعها بوظائف متعددة، يتعذر على غيرها القيام به على ذات الدرجة والمنوال. وتأتي التربية على رأس هذه الوظائف، فهي بمثابة عملية بناء دقيق للإنسان، وتنمية مداركه واعداده ليندمج داخل المجتمع، ويتكيف مع البيئة والمحيط الخارجي؛ وهي نقطة اتصال وربط بكافة النظم الاجتماعية الأخرى، بل أنها تمثل نظاما اجتماعيا مصغرا يُسهم في تحضير إعداد الفرد وتجهيزه ليجد مكانه ويؤدي دوره داخل المنظمة الاجتماعية. كما أنها تهيئ المناخ الذي يسهل مهمة المؤسسات الاجتماعية الأخرى بتوفير فرص تفتيق مواهب الأبناء، وتطوير قدراتهم، وإبراز ما يحسنون صنعه ويبرعون فيه، وتسعى هذه الدراسة إلى تبيان دور الأسرة في توفير مستلزمات التفوق لدى الأبناء.
