المستخلص: يسعى هذا البحث إلى وضع أساس قرائي لفهم الشعر الجاهلي وتفسيره وتأويله في ضوء المعطيات التاريخية والثقافية، ولاسيما أن الدلالات اللغوية التقريرية والايحائية للألفاظ والتراكيب الأدبية مرتبطة بإطاريها الزماني والمكاني. فالتأثير الجغرافي والبيئي باق، والتأثير التاريخي والثقافي يتغير لكن ببطء. كما أن الطبيعة الشفهية تسم المجتمعين الجاهلي والحديث؛ والمقصود بالحديث هو بيئات الجزيرة العربية قبل تكون الدولة السعودية الحديثة، وهي الثقافة التي ينبغي مساءلة تراثها الأدبي والإنساني، وفهم علاقة هذا التراث بالشعر الجاهلي، بما يمكن الباحث في الشعر الجاهلي من إعادة قراءته واستنباط دلالاته في ضوء نتائج الدراسات الأنثروبولوجية والسوسيولوجية عن بادية الجزيرة العربية وحاضرتها. كما يسعى البحث إلى الحد من فوضى الدلالة بتحديد حدود التأويل بالاحتمال الممكن أو الحقيقة المحتملة، لئلا يكون النص وعاء لما يريد المؤول أن يصبه فيه ويقولبه عليه. ولا شك أن تفكيك المسلمات التي وقرت في الدرس الأدبي يتطلب بحوثا ودراسات تطبيقية في نقد النقد، دون الانضواء تحت سلطة شراح الشعر ومحللية ممن أبعدوا النجعة في تفسير الشعر واستكناه دلالاته.

This study strives to establish a foundation for the understanding, illustration, and interpretation of the "Jahili” (pre-Islamic) Arabic poetry based on the interrelationships between the linguistic and inspirational influences of its lexis and literary structures, and the referential frames of the time, and place in which it was created. For the geographic and environmental effects are lasting, while the historical and cultural frames changes creep in incrementally. The basic premise of this work is that the oral literary culture of pre Islamic Arabia was still dominant in the pre-modern Saudi State of the Arabian Peninsula. Thus it must of great value to mine the social and literary cultures of this environment for ties to the Jahili poetry in ways which could empower the modern researcher to elucidate its true meaning. This must be done through applying the tools of the sciences of anthropology, sociology, and linguistics to the cultures of the rural and urban communities of Arabia. Another goal of this research is to establish a theoretical basis to delineate the boundaries interpretations to prevent the continuation of the chaotic previous interpretation based on probabilities on what was possible in pre-Islamic Arabia. The deconstruction of the so far established principles of interpretations requires much research on the criticism of the critical theory, especially in the field of traditional literary principles which were established in the past two centuries, with the goal of freeing the modern critic of the authority of those who delved in interpretation while removed from the environments in which the poetry was created.
