كان للمستشرقين دور بارز في اذكاء روح الترجمة، واقامة العلاقات بين الشرق والغرب، نتيجة للحروب الصليبية، والتبادل التجاري عبر صقلية، والفتح الاسلامي للاندلس، وامتداد الدولة العثمانية، ففي زمن الحروب الصليبية عرفت أكبر حركة ترجمة في التاريخ على امتداد قرنين من الزمان، نقل فيها معظم التراث العربي وامهات الكتب الى الغرب مما اتاح للثقافة العربية ان تدخل من باب واسع حضارة الغرب، وتترك اثرا بارزا مهما ساهم في رفع المكانة الثقافية والعلمية والحضارية للغرب. وقد امتد اهتمام المستشرقين بثقافة الشرق العربي منذ ذلك الوقت حتى العصر الحديث، وهذه الدراسة تلقي الضوء على دور المستشرقين الفرنسيين في نقل الثقافة العربية الى الغرب، دون الوقوف على تحليل الجوانب السلبية، او التطرق الى نظرة المستشرقين للشرق بطرفيها السلبي والايجابي، فهي دراسة مسحية تلقي الضوء على المساحة التي افردها المستشرقون الفرنسيون للثقافة العربية في ثلاثة محاور: الاول ترجمة المصادر والكتب العربية، والثاني: دراسات عن الادب العربي، والثالث: ترجمة اعمال ادبية. \
The orientalists had a noticeable role in developing the soul of translation and establishing relationships between the East and the West through the Crusader wars. The orientalists reinforced the trade exchange through Sicily and they helped in the Islamic conquest of Al- Andalus and the extension of the Ottoman State. During the Crusades the greatest translation movement in history was known and lasted for two hundred years. Through this translation movement, most of the Arab heritage was transmitted to the west. This gave the chance to the Arabic culture to enter through a wide door to the western civilization. As a result, there was an important effect which contributed to highlight the western culture and civilization. The interest of the orientalists in the East Arab culture extended to the present time. This study sheds some light on the role of the French orientalists in the transmission of the Arabic culture to the West. The study doesn’t analyze the negative sides or handle the orientalists’ view of the East in the negative and positive sides. This gave study sheds some light on the scope which the French orientalists considered for the Arabic culture through three cores: 1- The translation of references and Arabic books, 2- Studies about the Arabic literature, 3- Translation of literature works. \
