The Chadian military is receiving considerable attention at the international and regional levels within the framework of the efforts carried out to besiege and combat terrorist organizations in the Sahel and Sahara regions, as one of the most important armies in the region, having fought in several wars, in recent years, to restore security and stability. It is important to highlight the relationship between the Chadian army’s regional role in the Sahel and Sahara, and the attributes of the State of Chad as a reliable regional actor, ally and essential partner of regional and international forces in the fight against terrorism, given the mobilization of many of these forces in the region, in parallel with the developments in the Middle East and Africa in recent years. Within the framework of the regional and international developments in the Sahel and Sahara and the challenges facing the region, the increased regional role of the Chadian army in the region is predictable, due to Chad’s regional status and its prominent role in the fight against terrorism, as well as the vast experience of the Chadian army, stressing that international and regional forces need Chad as a strategic and effective ally in the fight against terrorism, given the expansion of terrorist organizations and the growth of operations in several countries in the region. Developments in southern Libya are also a threat to Chad and the region, with the fear from an expansion of terrorist organizations. This heightened role faces many challenges, such as: the possibility of a decline in international aid and Chadian army financing and focusing more attention on the new coastal force at its expense, as well as the possibility of a decline in the support given by the United States of America to Chad, if the recent crisis worsened. The intensification of the activities of the armed opposition in the north of the country and its expansion in other regions, as well as the threat posed by terrorist organizations, could pose a threat to Chad’s national security as well as to regional security and stability in the Sahel and Sahara
