المستخلص: Representations of Virgin Mary are considered one of the main themes of Coptic art. The Virgin Mary was frequently depicted with Jesus Christ in a composition known as Maria Lactans or Maria Galaktotrophousa. She was depicted seated with Jesus on her lab nursing him or he is a bit older in a frontal view. However, fewer scenes represent the Virgin Mary with different female characters from the New Testament. Elizabeth and Salome were two main characters associated with some major incidents in the life cycle of the Virgin Mary. This paper will focus on some of the female characters who appeared with her on Coptic mural paintings from the seventh to the thirteenth century. It will discuss their relation as reflected on art, symbolism and artistic significance of these scenes.
