This study deals with an important subject in the modern literary studies which is the relationship between a written work and its cinematic adaptation. Movie and book are two mediums of entertainment, and although they have equal merits, some people prefer one over the other. Books, on the one hand, are windows to any world and limited by one's imagination. Movies, on the other hand, are something that can easily let us feel what a feeling the director wants to convey because of the mix of visual and acoustic clues. They can make us cry or laugh because we clearly see and hear and feel what is being portrayed. In case of Cloud Atlas movie, it is the adaptation of the literary work that has the same title written by David Mitchell. This kind of adaptation raises a question about the relationship between reality and representation; the nature of this representation, and even the possibility of truth and objectivity in such representation. In this article, I will discuss the techniques used to present the story in the film and the effects they bring about. It mainly focuses on the special effects of film-making, proceeding from the principle that having an accurate analysis of a film's sequences is very crucial in order to obtain a better vision and a deep understanding of the written work. يتناول هذا البحث موضوعا مهما في مجال الدراسات الأدبية الحديثة، وهو العلاقة بين النص الإبداعي المكتوب ونسخته السينمائية. وتكمن هذه العلاقة في أن الرواية والفيلم السينمائي تعدان من المصادر المعرفية والترفيهية معا. وعلى الرغم من امتلاك الرواية والفيلم السينمائي لسمات فنية ومعرفية قد تكون متساوية بشكل أو بآخر، إلا أن الجمهور يغلب أحدهما على الآخر بحسب الذوق والاهتمام. يهدف هذا البحث إلى الإجابة عن التساؤل حول العلاقة بين النص المكتوب ونظيره المرئي، وإمكانية إبراز الموضوعية فيهما. وسنتوقف عند فيلم "الغيمة الأطلسية" رواية وفيلما للكاتب الروائي "ديفيد ميتشل"، لمناقشة التقنيات المستخدمة، بالإضافة إلى عرض القصة في الفيلم والتأثيرات البصرية والسمعية المجسدة فيها. وعلى الرغم من أن الرواية والفيلم تشتركان في تقنية سرد القصص، إلا أنه ثمة اختلافات مهمة في طرق الإنتاج، وأساليب تلقي النتائج المتنوعة، وبالتالي نحن بصدد معالجة النتائج المتجسدة عن ذلك التلقي. |
