Assessing Language Learning Strategy Use among First-Year EFL Students at the University of Mascara

This paper aims at assessing the language learning strategy (LLS) use of the 1st year EFL students at Mascara University. More specifically, the purpose of the present study is to assess 1st year EFL students’ overall use of LLSs. The research was conducted with the first-year EFL students at the University of Mascara. A total of 157 students have completed Oxford's Strategy Inventory for Language Learning (SILL) version 7.0 (Oxford, 1990). The findings revealed that the overall use of LLSs by the students is medium where meta-cognitive strategies are the most frequently used strategies Ce papier a pour objectif d’évaluer l’utilisation des stratégies d’apprentissage de la langue. La recherche a été menée auprès des étudiants de la première année EFL à l’Université de Mascara. Un total de 157 étudiants de la première année Anglais a terminé l’inventaire d’Oxford (SILL). Les résultats ont révélé que l’utilisation globale de LLSs par les étudiants est moyenne où les stratégies métacognitives sont les stratégies les plus fréquemment utilisées. |
