During the past decade, information technology has significantly changed the way the tourism companies plans, controls and manages operations. For example, the increased use of web 2.0, the increased use of mobile communication technology and smart phones, wireless technologies as well as the diversity of payment options such as the cashless payment systems has gradually altering the industry structure and developing a whole range of opportunities and threats. Hence, the purpose of this study is to identify the IT (information technology) goals in tourism companies in Egypt; identify key future developments in ICT that will influence the Egyptian tourism companies in the next five years; and predict and interpret the implications will these developments in ICT (information communication technology) for how tourism companies will be organized and delivering services. The Delphi technique was employed to forecast the future of the technology use in Egyptian tourism companies as well as its implications on tourism companies’ work in the next five years. Questionnaires were distributed either by email or by personal interview to a panel of experts including managers in tourism companies who are more than ten years' experience in the industry. Important findings- regarding the future developments on Information communication technology that is predicted to affect Egyptian tourism companies- have been spotted out, for example increased use of web 2.0 (social media). While, the most important technologies in tourism companies that will improve internal operations are: management information systems and cashless payment systems. |
