المستخلص: This study aims to investigate and analyze the challenges facing the women’s career advancement in the hotel industry. To survey the sample of the study, questionnaires were distributed to the targeted sample which consists of 176 middle-management level women working in five star hotels in Alexandria city in Egypt. A total of 138 completed questionnaires were returned with response rate of 78.4 %. Data collected was transformed for statistical analysis through the use of Excel software. After data processing, the Statistical Packages for Social Sciences (SPSS) were used for data analysis. Statistical techniques used in this study included frequencies, percentages and cross tabulations. The results clearly elucidated that the major challenges and barriers face women’s career advancement include: job characteristics such as irregular working- hours, balancing home and work responsibilities, gender discrimination, lack of equity in promotion decisions, unfair training policy and stress, followed by masculine culture, skills and personal attitude as a secondary challenges and barriers. These findings contradict with results reported by other authors.
