The Zayyanid state took care of the celebrations of the Prophet's birthday, similar to the celebrations that were practiced, religious or temporal, such as the celebration of the completion of the Holy Qur'an, and occasion of Eid al-Adha and other occasions. In this study, I will focus on celebrating the Prophet's birthday by examining the roots and backgrounds of the celebration of Zayyanids on this occasion. Some attributed it to the reign of Sultan Al-Marini Youssef ibn Ya'qub (695 AH /1286 AD - 706 AH /1306AD), who seized most of the territories of the Middle Maghreb and surrounded the city of Tlemcen for more than eight years, between 1290 -1306 AD. He had issued a decree that included the generalization of the phenomenon of the celebration of the Prophet's birthday in areas under his influence. There are those who thought that the celebration of this occasion appeared during the reign of Abu Hammu Zayyani. I will also discuss various aspects of the celebration, whether at the royal court or the grassroots level. This occasion was of a popular and official character since Abu Hammu Musa II assumed the throne in the year 760 AH / 1359 CE. He made this day one of the official holidays of the state, and he dedicated it very carefully. He invited people at all levels to attend the celebration. Yahya bin Khaldoun, describing his council on the night of the birthday, said: "And in his upper home, he set up a wedding wagon for it, and the nations gathered and crowded with nobles and common people." (Bughyat Al-Ruwwad, p. 142). I will also introduce the Zayyanid kings' practice in celebrating the Prophet's Birthday by organizing educational and poetic competitions in the praise and remembrance of the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). The Sultan mentioned above had several poems related to this occasion, which were mentioned in several sources, including: "Bughyah Al-Ruwwad" and "Wasetah Al-Soluk." The following kings continued to celebrate the birth, such as his son Abi Tashvin (1389—1393 AD) and King Abu Zayyan Muhammad ibn Abu Hammu (1394-1399 AD), who ruled for a significant period compared to other kings. During the reign of the two kings mentioned above, the poet Abu Abdullah Muhammad bin Yusuf Al-Thaghri, emerged with poems delivered on this occasion, as well as on the seventh night, which the Zayyanids celebrated, and remained so in the city of Tlemcen after the fall of the Zayyanid dynasty.
