المستخلص: The current research work presents the different stages of developing and validating a multiple-choice reading comprehension test based on "Jane Eyre" by Charlotte Bronte for EFL college learners. The idea behind this type of test is that it overcomes most of the problems and shortcomings inherent in traditional reading comprehension tests used at present in most schools, colleges and educational institutions. The construction of this test underwent different procedures which can be summed up as follows: (1) selecting the reading comprehension skills to be tested; (2) writing test items; (3) tryout test administration; and (5) scoring the tryout test in a multiple-choice format which was administered on April 19, 2019 to 210 EFL college learners, males and females at the Faculty of Education, Kafrelsheikh University. The objective behind the try out testing was to obtain the required distractors with the aim of utilizing them in developing the experimental test form of the multiple choice reading comprehension test. The aim behind the experimental testing was to obtain item analysis data, calculate test validity; estimate test reliability; and determine test optimum time limit. The test validity was calculated through using the statistical package (SPSS, version 18) plus some other procedures such as content validity, intrinsic validity and internal consistency validation and reliability. The test reliability was also calculated through using the previous statistical package (SPSS version 18) in addition to employing Spearman Brown and Guttman's equations. The findings indicated that the test validity, reliability, and test item analyses data indicated that the test as a whole provides good assessment of EFL college learners.
