يتناول الباحث من خلال هذه الدراسة والتحليل قضية من قضايا النحو العربي الشهيرة بمصطلح (أسماء الأفعال)، وقد تعرضت للدراسة والتمحيص من حيث أصالة التسمية والتصنيف، من خلال ما سجله الأوائل من علماء النحو واللغة. وكان الهدف من البحث كشف حقيقة هذه التسمية (أسماء الأفعال) وبيان مغزاها، والضرورة التي استوجبتها، وفي الوقت ذاته يستعرض ما عداها من التسميات الأخرى وبيان ما يعتريها من إشكال. كما سلط البحث الضوء على تصنيف هذه الألفاظ بين الاسمية والفعلية باعتبارهما عنصري المصطلح الغالب الذي ظل مسيطراً على علم النحو وكتبه قديماً وحديثاً، والتعريج على ذكر خصائص هذه الألفاظ سواء فيما له صلة بالأسماء أو الأفعال، أو فيما انفردت به عنهما. وخرج البحث بنتيجة ثابتة هو بقاء تسمية جمهور النحاة لهذه الألفاظ بــ (أسماء الأفعال)؛ لانسجامه مع التقسيم المنطقي للكلمة في العربية، ولاتصافها بخصائص الاسمية والفعلية مجتمعة، وترك ما عداه من تسميات حيث لم يسلم من الخلل والاضطراب.
In this study the researcher deals with one of the well-known issues of Arabic grammar known as the verbal nouns. It has been studied and examined in terms of originality and classification, based on the records of the previous linguists. The aim of the research is to uncover the reality of this term (verbal nouns) and its purpose, and the necessity that it required. In addition, the researcher reviews the other terms and the problems they have. The researcher also highlights the classification of these terms between the nominality and the verbality as they are the two dominant elements of the term which was dominating grammar to the recent times, mentioning the characteristics of these terms, whether in relation to nouns or verbs, or apart from them. The search comes up with the result that the term, verbal nouns, should remain as the majority of the grammarians named it. That is because of having harmony with the logical division of the word in Arabic, and having the nominal and verbal characteristics combined, ignoring other terms which do not escape imperfection.
