Antonymy is generally defined as relations of opposition or contrast in meaning. In Arabic, antonyms are used for different purposes and they are divided into three main groups: negative antonymy, positive antonymy and implied antonymy. These types are somewhat different from English. Whereas it is classified into two divisions in English: those which are of different roots and those which are formed with the help of negative affixes (derivational). Actually, this study aims at extracting the antonyms in Sura II and adding a new classification to antonymy in Arabic which is known as implied antonymy. In this type of antonymy, implied antonyms do not appear clear to the readers in some verses and they need to get back to the interpretations of sacred texts to find the antonym words, i.e. one antonym is present in the holy text and the opposite word is in the interpretation or both are in the interpretation of Sura. The main purpose of this study is to apply the Arabic classification of antonymy on Sura II.
