المستخلص: It seems to us that meaning is a variable geometry given due to the interpretation of factors as endogenous as exogenous. It is therefore a question of grasping the notion of meaning and to what extent we must delimit it in order to be able not only to apprehend, de-verbalize and reverbalize this meaning in its re-expression in the target language - taking into account of course not only linguistic factors but also and perhaps especially extralinguistic factors -. It is in this perspective that we think it would be possible to speak of "fidelity in the sense" and that this notion of "fidelity" is pre-defined because it is not only confusing when associated with the notion of literality, authenticity, fidelity to the letter, fidelity to the spirit, etc. but also that it is often used as an all-encompassing term in translation, that is to say that it can have several ramifications of meaning, therefore several interpretations.

Il nous apparait que le sens est une donnée à géométrie variable en raison de l’interprétation de facteurs tout aussi endogènes qu’exogènes. Il s’agit donc de saisir la notion du sens et dans quelle mesure nous devons la délimiter pour pouvoir non seulement appréhender, déverbaliser et reverbaliser ce sens dans sa réexpression dans la langue cible- en tenant compte bien sûr non seulement des facteurs linguistiques mais aussi et peut-être surtout des facteurs extralinguistiques -. C’est dans cette perspective que nous pensons qu’il serait possible de parler de « fidélité au sens » et que cette notion de «fidélité» soit pré-définie car elle prête non seulement à confusion lorsqu’elle est associée à la notion de littéralité, d’authenticité, de fidélité à la lettre, de fidélité à l’esprit, etc. mais aussi qu’elle est souvent utilisée comme un terme englobant en traduction, c’est-à-dire qu’elle peut avoir plusieurs ramifications de sens, donc plusieurs interprétations.
