|a كان نشوء الدولة الحديثة وما ارتبط بها من مشكلات تنموية بمختلف أبعادها الاقتصادية والاجتماعية والثقافية، يمثل الهم الرئيسي لرواد التنوير في البلاد التي مرت بتلك المرحلة الدقيقة من تاريخها، فقد أثارت تحولات مرحلة الانتقال من وضعية تقليدية إلى أخرى حديثة عند أولئك المفكرين الرواد اهتماما كبيرا، جعلهم يقدحون زناد أفكارهم بحثا عن رؤى مستقبلية للمجتمع الجديد، فقدموا لمجتمعاتهم أفكارا متقدمة عن واقع المجتمع في مرحلة التنمية، وعن طبيعة العلاقات الاجتماعية الجديدة، ويرسمون بفكرهم مستقبل المجتمع في مرحلة التحول، ويحددون معالم العقد الاجتماعي الجديد الذي تتطلبه تلك المرحلة، ويعملون على إيجاد نوع من التوافق بين الموروث الاجتماعي والثقافي وبين ما تم اكتسابه في مرحلة الانتقال إلى الدولة الحديثة وصولا إلى إيجاد نسق اجتماعي - ثقافي هجين حقق التواصل المنشود في حركة المجتمع الحديث خلال القرن التاسع عشر. ونتناول موضوع النهضة الفكرية في شخصيتين هما فوكوزاوا يوكتيشي من اليابان والشيخ محمد عبده من مصر، وهما شخصيتين متقابلتين من الناحية الاجتماعية ومختلفتين من الناحية السياسية، لذلك سندرسهما دراسة مقارنة في ثلاثة مباحث من اجل الوقوف على نقاط الالتقاء والاختلاف في المجالين السياسي والاجتماعي خلال النصف الثاني من القرن التاسع عشر الميلادي.
