المستخلص: L’usage du terme modèle est devenu courant dans le discours scientifique, à tel point qu’il est devenu difficile à contourner, il est présent dans tous les champs disciplinaires. Le présent article examine l’origine et la sémantique du mot modèle. Analysant la signification de ce terme, Les auteurs leur apparut à l’issue de leur étude que l’étymologie de ce terme est ambiguë, elle constitue une singularité. Pour tenter d’éliciter on a émet quelques hypothèses sur son origine qu’il parait énigmatique. L’une d’elles qu’il semble plausible est l’existence d’un lien d’emprunt entre le terme modèle et son équivalent mithāl /miθa:l/ en langue arabe en se basant sur leur sonorité similaire et leur correspondance sémantique.

The use of the term model has become very common in scientific discourse, to an extent that it is difficult to circumvent, it is present in all disciplinary fields. The present article examines the origin and semantics of the word model. The present article examines the origin and semantics of the word model. Analyzing the meaning of this term, the authors appeared to them at the end of their study that the etymology of this term is ambiguous, since it represents a singularity. In an attempt to elicit more definite answers, some hypothesis and remarks have been emitted about its origin, which remain enigmatic. In this research, we have proposed a hypothesis, which seems very plausible, that is the existence of a borrowing link between the term model and its equivalent mithāl /miθa:l/ in Arabic language based on their similar sonority and semantic correspondence.
