المستخلص: This study is a comparative linguistic analysis of two translations of Luigi Pirandello's short story "Night" translated by Khalifa Tillisi in 1967 then by Edwar Kharrat in 1999. The hypothesis for this study is to examine the translation on the lexical, semantic-pragmatic, syntactic and phonetic levels. The goal, thus, is to compare how some cases in Italian are reported in Arabic translations and make a semantic-pragmatic analysis that highlights whether any differences between the two languages will produce a change of meaning. It is obviously not meant to criticize the translators, yet to understand how they dealt with the various problems of translation. In translation, of course, the question arises of whether and how to maintain linguistic and cultural diversity of the original. After doing the analysis, it was found that the translation was not completely correct in some cases and as a result, at times, failed to bring all the details of the original text in the target text. In all cases analyzed there were differences that caused an alteration of the message. One can thus conclude that studies of this kind should continue to be realized, to shed light on the importance of translating correctly always with the aim of promoting interpersonal communication.
