المستخلص: Language is a living entity that is always in constant change, i.e. it grows, changes, renovates and vanishes. There is a general agreement that the discrepancies between "Modern Standard Arabic and spoken Arabic" are manifest in all language domains (in phonology, in lexicology, in morphology, in syntax, in semantics and in pragmatics). The present research aims to shed a spotlight on the differences between the three Arabic varieties (Iraqi, Egyptian and Levantine) in comparison to the Modern Standard Arabic at the phonological and lexical levels, to account for why in some situations or contexts, the spoken and lexical forms of these varieties are mutually incomprehensible. To achieve this objective, appropriate data are collected from these three varieties. The linguistic differences are spotted, analyzed and categorized. The data are analyzed and supported by respective explanations, where necessary.
