المستخلص: The spontaneous and illegal occupation of public spaces in the municipality of Ziguinchor poses the serious problem of urban space management, in a context of rapid urbanization and increasing impoverishment of the urban population. If this phenomenon is not new, it is becoming more and more important everywhere with the economic and social crisis born of the structural adjustment policies of the 1980s. In addition, the armed conflict of Casamance which has resulting in increasing poverty and an increase in the urban population due to rural exodus. Given that the city of Ziguinchor does not offer all spaces equipped to practice these trades, it remains for them to occupy informally all the nooks and crannies where they could attract the attention of a clientele more and more annoyed by the jostling of the market or in a hurry to carry out their acts of purchase. Thus, the approaches to the city's main thoroughfares have become ideal places for informal trade. Urban managers themselves seem to accept the fait accompli or turn a blind eye to a phenomenon that tends to make the city unbearable. This article, mainly based on the observation and analysis of socio-economic data, aims mainly to analyze the problem of informal occupation of roadways, pedestrian crossings and intersections in Ziguinchor, identifying the main activities, the different actors as well as the causes and consequences of such practices on urban mobility.

L’occupation informelle des espaces publics dans la commune de Ziguinchor pose le grave problème de gestion de l’espace urbain, dans un contexte d’urbanisation intense et d'appauvrissement croissant de la population urbaine. Si ce phénomène n’est pas nouveau, il prend de plus en plus d’ampleur partout avec la crise économique et sociale née des politiques d’ajustement structurel des années 1980. À cela s'ajoute, le conflit armé de la Casamance qui a entraîné une pauvreté croissante et un accroissement de la population urbaine du fait de l'exode rural.Étant donné que la ville de Ziguinchor n'offre pas à tous des espaces aménagés pour exercer ces métiers, il ne leur reste qu'à occuper de façon informelle tous les coins et recoins d'où ils pourraient susciter l'attention d'une clientèle de plus en plus irritée par les bousculades du marché ou pressée d'accomplir leurs actes d'achat.Ainsi, les abords des grandes artères de la ville sont devenus des endroits idéaux pour le commerce informel. Les gestionnaires urbains semblent eux-mêmes admettre le fait accompli ou fermer les yeux sur un phénomène qui tend à rendre la ville invivable. Cet article, s’appuyant essentiellement sur l’observation et l’analyse de données socioéconomiques, vise principalement à analyser le problème d’occupation informelle des abords de voiries, destinés au passage des piétons, et des carrefours à Ziguinchor, en identifiant les principales activités exercées, les différents acteurs ainsi que les causes et les conséquences de telles pratiques sur la mobilité urbaine.
