Upon the 1948 nakba, the Palestinian national structure was damaged by the displacement of most of the population of the territories occupied by the Zionist gangs, which made 78% of Palestine under mandate. Out of 1,400,000, only about 156,000 Palestinians stayed in the new Zionist entity. The present report sheds light on their role in serving the Palestinian issue in spite of the harsh Israeli measures. An oppressive martial rule imposed on the area was used by the Israeli authorities to carry on with the confiscation of millions of dunums of the Arab land; these Palestinians were subject to carrot and stick methods; and they were faced with policies of impoverishment, Israelization and integration in the Israeli society. It is stated that all these steps, especially in the wake of military rule and 1967 aggression, were not very helpful. On the contrary, awareness of national affiliation to the Arab, Palestinian identity grew among the 1948 territories population. According to the report, they played a vital role in serving the Palestinian cause in their own ways to maintain their existence, Arabism and national identity, such as: - Consolidating their identity and belonging to the Palestinian people as well as raising national and cultural awareness, in a bid to prevent their Israelization or integration in the overwhelming Israeli community - Keeping the Palestinian heritage from loss, Judaization and suppression by the Israeli authorities, by means of founding specialized institutions and societies which conserved the Palestinian legacy and all sacred matters - Exposing the Israeli policies and practises, by means of creating public opinion, using different types of media and addressing the Arabs and international community with way they understand to demonstrate the fascist nature of the Israelis as well as their racist laws, such as the latest Nation State - Supporting the Palestinian people and interacting with all the developments mainly related to the systematic Israeli terrorism, aggressions, arrests and assassinations of the Palestinian leaders and activists. It is concluded that, due to the special status of the 1948 territories Palestinians as Israeli citizens, their actions are restricted by several considerations, such as legislation, public services, labor and budgets. The steps they made went in line with the above determinants.
