المستخلص: يعرض فواز طرابلسي في كتاب تاريخي ليس كمثيله أسماه "حرير وحديد من جبل لبنان إلى قناة السويس" حوليات ودوريات لشهادات وحكايات تسرد تاريخ الهيمنة الغربية على الشرق في القرن التاسع عشر. شخوص الكتاب الحقيقية تأخذنا من منطقة هيمنة إلى الأخرى عبر صناعة الحرير في جبل لبنان تلك المنطقة المحتقنة التي حافظت على جزوة الصراع فيها القوة الغربية وخصوصا إنجلترا حتى تحكم سيطرتها عليها، إلى مصر التي اختارها السان سيمونيان لتكون منطقة نفوذ فرنسية. يستعرض الكاتب المؤرخ عبر مكاتبات بين شخوص تاريخية قدمها كما كنت لا كما يريد مؤرخيها أن تكون وقصاصات جرائد ومقتطفات كتب وحكايات وكلمات باتت مأثورة يستعرض خيوط غزلت ما بات يعرف باللعبة العظمى في الشرق.

Fawaz Traboulsi, in a unique historical book, which he named “Silk and Iron from Mount Lebanon to the Suez Canal,” shows annals and periodicals of testimonies and tales recounting the history of Western domination over the East in the 19th century. The true characters of the book take us from one region of domination to another through the silk industry in Mount Lebanon, that bloodshot region where the conflict was maintained by Western power, especially England, until it controlled it, to Egypt, which the Saint-Simon chose to be an area of French influence. The writer historian reviews through correspondence between historical people presented as it was not as historians want it to be and newspaper clippings and excerpts books, stories and words have become classic showing threads that have been spun, which have become known as the Great Game in the East.
