|a A new series of 4-nitroimidazole derivatives bearing substituted piperazine (64ck-m) and (67dn-ap) where synthesized, characterized, and biologically tested. 4-nitroimidazole derivatives were prepared according to two ways: first one reactions of1-(3-alkyl/aryl-2-alkyl-5-nitro-3H-imidazol-4-yl)-4-(2-halo-alkyl)-piperazine (63cf, dj) with substituted piperazine. Second way: reactions of 3-(3-Benzyl-2-ethyl-5-nitro-3H-imidazol-4-ylsulfanyl)-propionic acid (66a, d) with thionyl chloride and after evaporating of excess thionyl chloride, substituted piperazine was added. The prepared compounds were separated, purified, and their structures were confirmed by means of 1H-NMR, 13C-NMR. The in vitro anti-cancer activity of selected compounds, namely (67dn) and (67do) were tested against the prostate cancer PC3. The anti-cancer testing revealed that compound (67do) was more active than compound (67dn) against prostate cancer PC3.
