|b Nowadays technology is advancing rapidly and the needs of technology is increasing day by day. With the increasing of database's capacities, the amount of recording information is also increased. Therefore, the analysis of the available data and the consequence of these methods of data deduction are becoming increasingly important for decision makers. We can briefly describe data mining as an analytic process to extract useful patterns, analyze meaningful relationships within the data, analyze its components, and search of patterns in massive and enormous data. In addition, using data mining methods also allows organizations to discover useful information that helps them to make decisions. With applying data mining principle, significant results can be gained that will help in many areas of decision making. The knowledge can be achieved by meaningful data from raw data by thinning the data by various methods. This study aims to define the relationship between data mining and decision making. A questionnaire was conducted in Ataturk university. The questionnaire distributed to the lecturers in the department of Economics and Administrative Sciences to take their views about the use of data mining as a strategic supporting medium in academic work.
