المستخلص: The dark decade. A difficult period that Algeria has gone through. Described as bloody, even traumatic, the 1990s shocked Algerians whose daily life, imbued with fear and pain, was transformed into a descent into hell. In the face of this tragedy, many French-speaking Algerian authors have become involved, through their written production, to bear witness to this harsh reality. Among them, Boualem SANSAL, who in Le Serment des barbares (The Oath of the Barbarians), has invested himself to reflect this ordeal by opting for the narrative of a criminal enigma . Through our study, we will try to get closer to the police genre and its characteristics and norms; a perspective that will allow us to translate the how and why of the adaptation of this type of fiction to the Algerian context of that period.

La décennie noire. Une période difficile par laquelle est passée l’Algérie. Qualifiées de sanglantes, voire de traumatisantes, les années 1990 ont bouleversé les Algériens dont le quotidien, imprégné de peur et de douleur se métamorphosa en une descente aux enfers. Face à cette tragédie, les auteurs algériens d’expression française se sont impliqués, par le truchement de leur production écrite, pour témoigner de cette dure réalité. Parmi eux, Boualem SANSAL, qui dans Le Serment des barbares, s’est investi pour refléter cette épreuve, en optant pour le récit d’énigme criminelle. Nous tenterons à travers notre étude de nous rapprocher du genre policier et de ses caractéristiques et normes ; une perspective qui nous permettra de traduire le comment et le pourquoi de l’adaptation de ce type de fiction au contexte algérien de ladite époque.
