|b In 1998, the Middle East Science Center (MESC) has launched the “Scientific Research Award for Jordanian University Students” with several Jordanian universities, aiming at providing students with scientific research tools, developing the spirit of scientific research and skills according to the proper scientific method and contributing to the service of Jordanian development through the suggested fields and researches presented. When launched, the contest has started by cooperating with 2 universities. It kept growing until it cooperates now with 12 universities. Moreover, the award has launched with three themes; local Jordanian, Arab Islamic and the Islamic Arab conflict, and international. Later, an award for banking and finance was added. After holding a scientific and technical seminar in 2010 to study and assess the project’s journey during the past 12 years, it had been decided to change the name from Research Contest for Jordanian University Students to “Scientific Research Award for Jordanian University Students”. It had also been concluded to raise the value of the awards so the first award turns to 1000 JD rather than 750 JD, and the 2nd award turns to 750 rather than 500 JD, and the 3rd award to be 500 JD rather than 400 JD. A 4th award also has been added with a value of 400 JD. During the 22 years past, the award has achieved an outstanding growth in the numbers of students participating. Numbers has been rising since 1998 until it marked a total of 300 students participating, a number which has varied between rounds. As for the percentage of students who have submitted competing research plans, it has attained 17% among all participants, noting that this percentage varies between the rounds. Numbers of competing research students have multiplied. In the 6th round, for example, number of research students has marked 35 students. The sum of students participated in all rounds was 346 researcher; 80 of which have won from 20 Jordanian universities. Moreover, the number of professors in membership of arbitration committees through all rounds has attained 68 members from 14 different Jordanian universities and 3 Jordanian private institutions. Arbitrators specialize in various humanitarian and scientific fields related to the themes and provided award titles to the students. Most arbitrators have judged more than once.
