القياس في صوغ المصدر الميمي على وزن مفعل (بفتح الميم والعين)، ويستثني من ذلك المثال الواوي يأتي على وزن مفعل (بفتح الميم وكسر العين) بشروط معلومة عند النحاة، وما جاء مخالفا لذلك يحفظ ولا يقاس عليه، وقد ورد عن العرب مصادر مثلثة العين منها: المعذرة، والمأربة، والمهلك، والمقدرة، والمقربة، والميسرة، والمضوفة، وهذه تحفظ ولا يقاس عليها، وأما إذا كان زائدا على ثلاثة أحرف فمصدره الـميمي يصاغ على وزن الفعل المضـارع مع إبدال حرف المضارعة ميما مضمومة، وفتح الحرف الذي قبل آخره، ويشاركه في هذا الوزن اسم المفعول، وظرف الزمان والمكان، ويسري عليه ما يسري على أقسام المصادر الأخرى.
