المستخلص: تهدف الدراسة إلى وصف شكل الفعل ووظيفته في الإنكليزية والعربية المحكية في منطقة الحضر لبيان تركيب الفعل ووظيفته، ووصف السمات النحوية لكل من أقسام الكلام لكل كلمة. على سبيل المثال بري جونسون عرفة النحو كــ ((جزء ثاني للنحو العام التي تعلم تركيب الكلمة وفقا للمعنى الأصلي...)) ووفقا للمعنى الأصلي، أن النحو اعتبر دراسة الطرق التي تجمع الكلمات سوية لتكوين جملة مقبولة. يتناول البحث جزئين وصف شكل الفعل ووظيفته في الإنجليزية ووصفه من حيث الشكل والوظيفة في العربية المحكية في منطقة الحضر. الوظيفة هي مفهوم علائقي من خلال مكان المفردة ذات المكانة النحوية العالية. وأن أي دراسة ذات أهمية نحوية يجب أن تتضمن دراسة الشكل والوظيفة كلاهما من خلال الوقوف على أوجه الاختلاف والتشابه من حيث الوصف. الاستنتاج يتضمن الشكل والوظيفة كجزءان متماسكان والتحليل اللغوي يكون ذو معنى أكثر إذا اكتملت التركيب العامة والشاملة فضلا عن لعناصر الوظيفية المختلفة.

The study aims at describing verb from and Function in English and spoken Arabic in AL Hatra Area to show the structure of the verb and its function, describing the grammatical features of each part of speech in every sentence . Beri Jonson, for example, defined syntax as ''the second part of grammar, that teacheth the construction of word '' (Herford et… al 1970:528). In accordance with etymological meaning, syntax was in traditional grammar considered to be a study of the ways in which words could be strung together to from acceptable sentences. The research paper falls into two parts, the first part describing verb form and function in English, and part two deals with verb form and function of spoken Arabic in AL Harta Area. Function is essentially a relational concept, it places an item in relation to another item of a higher grammatical status. Any worthwhile study of syntax must, therefore, include a study of both form and function. Conclusion, Both verb Form and Function are integrated and the linguistic analysis would be more meaningful if it allowed to proceed the two structurally universal as well as the functionally variable elements. In suggestion, the subject can be tackled from semantic and pragmatic points of view.
