توصل البحث إلى عدة نتائج هامة، من أبرز هذه النتائج: - أكثر أسباب الصعوبات التي يواجهها الناطق بالإنجليزية عند تعلمه العربية تنجم عن التدخل اللغوي بين العربية والإنجليزية. - هناك اختلافات بين النظام النحوي في اللغتين العربية والإنجليزية، فمن ناحية العدد تفرق اللغة العربية بين المفرد والمثنى والجمع، وتستعمل عناصر صرفية لصيقة للتعبير عن تلك المعاني، أما اللغة الإنجليزية فلا تفرق بين المفرد والمثنى والجمع، حيث لا يوجد فيها المثنى، بل يوجد بها المفرد Singular والجمع Plural فقط، ومن ناحية التذكير والتأنيث تفرق اللغة العربية بين المذكر والمؤنث، وتستعمل في الفعل عناصر صرفية لصيقة للتعبير عن معنى التذكير والتأنيث، أما اللغة الإنجليزية فلا تقرق بين المذكر والمؤنث في الفعل المسند إلى المذكر أو المؤنث، حيث لا يوجد فيها فعل يدل على فاعل مؤنث أو مذكر، فالفعل: تقرأ - مثلا - يدل على مؤنث، وليس الأمر كذلك في: She read. - هذه الدراسة تسهم في تذليل بعض الصعوبات النحوية التي يواجهها الناطق بالإنجليزية أثناء تعلمه العربية، كما تسهم في مساعدة معلمي العربية الذين يعلمون العربية للناطقين بالإنجليزية، حيث توضح لهم -بطريقة منظمة -الاختلافات الجوهرية في النظام النحوي بين اللغتين العربية والإنجليزية، وتمكنهم من التنبؤ بالصعوبات النحوية والأخطاء المتوقعة من الناطقين بالإنجليزية حين تعلمهم العربية.
