المستخلص: يعد عضو هيئة التدريس من أهم الركائز الأساسية للجامعة فهو الذي يكسب جميع المدخلات التعليمية الفاعلية المطلوبة لتحقيق الأهداف المنشودة ومن ثم يتوقف عليه إلى حد كبير مدي قدرة الجامعة على القيام بوظائفها وتحقيق أهدافها المختلفة فهو موصل المعلومات الأول لطلابه والمؤثر في بنائهم العلمي كما أنه صاحب الباع في مجال البحث العلمي وربط جامعته بمجتمعها المحلي، بل ويتوقف عليه إلى حد كبير تميز ومركزها الأكاديمي، فإن صلح عضو هيئة التدريس الجامعي صلحت الجامعة وإن انحدر مستواه انحدر مستوي الجامعة بالتبعية، ولا ريب في أن تحقيق النتائج المرجوة من إعادة هيكلة التعليم العالي يتطلب عضو هيئة تدريس على درجة عالية من الكفاءة العلمية والتربوية له إسهاماته الفعالة تدريسيا وبحثا وخدمة المجتمع فهو أحد المدخلات الهامة بل والفاعلة لعملية التحديث والتطوير، كما أنه يسهم في تطوير البحث العلمي بما يقدمه من دراسات تخدم المجتمع وتسهم في تحقيق التنمية الشاملة له. وسنحاول من خلال هذا المقال أن نسلط الضوء بشيء من التفصيل علي عضو هيئة التدريس أي الأستاذ الجامعي ومهنة التدريس من خلال عرض أهم الخصائص والصفات التي يجب أن يتحلى بها من أجل استيفاء متطلبات مهنة التدريس الجامعي وكذا أدائه لمهمة البحث العلمي.

The faculty member is one of the most important pillars of the university. He earns all the effective educational inputs required to achieve the desired goals. Therefore, the extent to which the university is able to carry out its functions and achieve its various objectives largely depends on him. He is the first information communicator to his students and influences their academic structure. He also has knowledge of academic research and links his university with its local community, and even its excellence and academic position depend on him to a large extent. The university is good if the faculty member is good, and if his level declines, the university’s level declines by extension. Undoubtedly, achieving the desired results from the restructuring of higher education requires a faculty member with a high degree of scientific and pedagogical competence who has effective contributions to teaching, research, and community service. He is one of the important and even effective inputs to the process of modernization and development. He also contributes to the development of scientific research with the studies it presents that serve the community and contribute to achieving its comprehensive development. In this article, we will try to shed light in some detail on the faculty member, the university professor, and the teaching profession by presenting the most important characteristics and qualities that he must possess in order to meet the requirements of the university teaching profession as well as his performance of the task of scientific research.
