المستخلص: The city is a moving reality, that it is a fact. Under constant pressure, it cannot stay unchanged. And it is precisely from this conviction that the city remains an almost elusive object for practitioners of the social sciences that the idea of reflecting on a (self) critical text of some research and exploration of different aspects of urban reality, spanning almost twenty years of existence, germinated in my mind. This paper below is therefore intended to be philosophical, in the sense that the results of research efforts are of little importance. The interest is located in the critique of the process, of the approach to this elusive reality. To do this, we thought it wise to focus this criticism on what links all of his research, namely the notion of urban exclusion.

Il est désormais un fait avéré, la ville est une réalité en mouvement. Sous pression permanente, elle ne peut rester inchangée. Et c’est justement de cette conviction que la ville demeure une objet presque insaisissable pour les praticiens des sciences sociales que l’idée de réfléchir à un texte (auto)critique de quelques travaux de recherche et d’exploration d’aspects différents de la réalité urbaine, s’étalant sur presque vingt années d’existence, ait germée dans l’esprit de l’auteur de ces lignes. L’article ci-dessous se veut donc profondément philosophique, dans le sens où les résultats des efforts de recherche n’ont que peu d’importance. Tout l’intérêt réside dans la critique de la démarche, de l’approche même de cette réalité fuyante. Pour ce faire nous avons cru sage d’axée cette critique sur ce qui relie tous ses travaux de recherche, soit la notion d’exclusion urbaine.
