The present study aimed at investigating the effectiveness of the content -based instruction program in developing the listening comprehension skills of first year secondary students in governmental language schools and enhancing their motivation towards studying English. The proposed program included six listening and speaking units, each lesson presented an authentic video or a documentary based on a topic from their science curriculum. The study design was a pre-post/ experimental-control design. The experimental group consisted of 28 students and the control group consisted of 27 students. The study presented evidence that there were statistically significant differences between the pre-test and the post-test in the experimental group in favor of the post test. Moreover, there was evidence that there were statistically significant differences between the control and experimental groups in favor of the experimental group. Consequently, it was concluded that the content-based instruction program helped in fostering the first year secondary students' listening comprehension skills and in enhancing their motivation towards studying English.
